Enterprise colocation in Canada means placing your servers and network equipment in a secure, carrier-neutral data centre while keeping your data in Canadian facilities. Hut 8 runs five data centres across British Columbia and Ontario, linked by a 100G national backbone. Every site is SOC 2 Type II certified, supports PIPEDA data residency and carries a 99.99% uptime SLA.

This article covers:

  • where the sites are
  • what comes standard
  • how configurations work
  • how to match a site to a workload

What security and compliance come standard?

Every Hut 8 Canada site includes:

  • SOC 2 Type II certification
  • NIST assessment, conducted case by case
  • PIPEDA data residency, hosted in Canadian facilities
  • Card and biometric access
  • 24/7 NOC-monitored CCTV
  • A 24/7 network operations centre
  • A 99.99% uptime SLA

The Vancouver Vault adds construction originally built for the Bank of Canada: 28-inch steel-reinforced walls, 1 m ceilings and 2 m floors.

For the rules that apply in finance, healthcare and the public sector, see data residency and Toronto colocation.

What colocation configurations are available?

Colocation comes as a half rack, full rack or private cage, all with A + B power. Remote Hands and Eyes is available at every site and billed hourly. To size your footprint, see half rack vs full rack vs private cage.

How does multi-site colocation work across British Columbia?

Both downtown Vancouver sites fail over to Kelowna within Hut 8's own network. Kelowna is about 270 km from Vancouver in a straight line and has one of the lowest geographic risk profiles in North America. The pairing gives you a downtown presence and a second, lower-risk site on the same backbone.

This is site-level colocation failover between your own deployments, not a backup service.

How is each site connected?

Every site is carrier-neutral, with 100G ports and dark fibre, and connects to the 100G national backbone. Mississauga has five carriers on net: Rogers, Bell, Zayo, Cogent and Telus. See connectivity.

Which site fits which workload?

  • Finance, government, healthcare and tech: Mississauga, Tier III designed, with five carriers close to Toronto.
  • A downtown Vancouver presence: the Vault or Vancouver (VAN2), with failover to Kelowna.
  • A northern GTA location: Vaughan, with 2N connectivity and N+1 cooling.
  • High-density or GPU workloads: Kelowna or Mississauga, at 135 kW and up per rack. See GPU colocation in Canada.
