Hut 8 Canada runs two data centres in downtown Vancouver, VAN1 (the Vancouver Vault) and VAN2, and a third in Kelowna, KEL1, about 270 km away. All three sit on Hut 8's 100G national backbone, so a Vancouver deployment can have a second site in Kelowna without leaving the network.
A second rack across town shares the same city: the same power grid region, the same weather and the same local events. Kelowna is about 270 km from downtown Vancouver, in the BC Interior, so it is far enough apart to be a separate risk and close enough to stay in-province on the same network.
VAN1, the Vancouver Vault, was originally built for the Bank of Canada, with 28-inch steel-reinforced walls. It is Tier I with 1 MW designed, 48U cabinets, a 600 kW generator with more than 48 hours of runtime, and chillers with in-row cooling (N+1). VAN2 is Tier I with 1 MW designed, 48U cabinets, A + B power with 2N UPS, two generators (435 kW) with more than 24 hours of runtime, and CRAC cooling (N+1).
KEL1 is Tier III designed and liquid-cooling capable, with up to 135 kW per rack in 50U cabinets. It runs 2N (A+B) power, N+1 cooling, two 1,500 kW generators with more than 29 hours of runtime, and 95% renewable hydroelectricity. Four carriers serve the site: Telus, Rogers, Zayo and Bell. 1.8 MW of high-density capacity is available now.

Traffic between Vancouver and Kelowna stays on Hut 8's 100G national backbone. Add cross-connects and carrier services at each end to match how your applications replicate and fail over.
Yes. Hut 8 Canada has two downtown Vancouver data centres (VAN1, the Vancouver Vault, and VAN2) and a data centre in Kelowna (KEL1), about 270 km away, all on Hut 8's 100G national backbone.
Hut 8's Kelowna data centre is about 270 km from its two downtown Vancouver sites.
No. It is site-level colocation failover between your own deployments. You run equipment at both sites; Hut 8 provides colocation and connectivity at each end. Hut 8 Canada does not offer cloud or backup services.
They are linked by Hut 8's 100G national backbone, so failover stays in-network. Each site is carrier-neutral, with 100G ports, dark fibre, cross-connects and diverse fibre entrances.
Every Hut 8 site carries a 99.99% uptime SLA, which means 53 minutes or less of downtime a year, with 24/7 NOC monitoring.
Yes. KEL1 is Tier III designed and liquid-cooling capable, with up to 135 kW per rack in 50U cabinets. 1.8 MW of high-density capacity is available now.
In Canadian facilities. Every Hut 8 site supports PIPEDA data residency and is SOC 2 Type II certified.
